We took VA 16 as a means to get to Burke's Garden from Johnson City, on our Harley Ultra Classic. The ride was ho-hum until we hit this spectacular stretch of road! We might have seen 3 other vehicles the entire 32 miles so we were able to relax and have some fun with it. We had no idea we were on the Back of the Dragon until we landed at The General Store in Tazewell. There, the lady behind the counter filled us in on The Back of the Dragon, and gave us all the details about Dragon Day. Amazing ride!!!

I live in TN but went to Tazewell to visit my sister. My nephew suggested the "Back of the Dragon" since we happen to have our bike there. It was wonderful. The scenery was breathtaking. We took our time and just soaked it all in. We do plan to ride it again.

But once I realized what was going on it made mine and sons trip alot funner and we were in a old honda accord. I've always wanted to take a motorcycle across some of our local roads but never have. Thanks for bringing this awesome road to everyones attention.

Wow! What a ride. In June I completed the USA Four Corners Tour of the USA. 12,500 miles. I wanted to knock off as many outstanding motorcycling roads as I could. I discovered the BOTG on line and added it to my itinerary. It was terrific. What a great road. Endless tight turns. Great scenery and vistas. The general area has many other scenic roads to explore. I'm from the west coast with so many mountain roads, but nothing quite as twisty and over the top as VA 16.

I had the pleasure of riding this great stretch of road this past weekend. One of the best motorcycling roads ever. I wish I had done a little more research before starting my trip and made a stop in Tazewell to pick up a shirt. Ordered it online today.

My three day trip included US119 over Pine Mountain at Whitesburg, KY, sections of Virginia's Crooked Road starting at the Breaks Interstate Park, The Dragon's Back, Blue Ridge Parkway, hwy 181 in NC, hwy 80 back up to the BRP, hwy 276 down to Brevard, 64 to hwy 215 back to the BRP, Smokey Mountain Expressway to NC 28 first south to Highlands to see the waterfalls then doubled back on 28 all the way to Deals Gap, a pass or two and then the Cherohala Skyway. Oh, and we rode The Diamondback at Little Switzerland too.

All epic motorcycle roads and 16 is as good as any of them if not the best. Keep up the good work. If not for your promoting of the road we may have turned west sooner and missed one of the best.

The new pavement on the south half of the Back of the Dragon takes the road from a good ride to a great ride. The state came through to get the road in great condition so many people can have a great ride all summer.
